We recently resolved an important whistleblower case in Kentucky, resulting in a significant settlement on behalf of our client. While the terms of the agreement are confidential, we can speak to what this outcome represents — both for our client and for employees across the Commonwealth.

Kentucky’s Whistleblower Act exists for a reason: to protect public employees who have the courage to report misconduct, safety violations, improper practices, or abuses of authority. These workers often stand alone, raising concerns in environments where speaking up may not be welcomed. The law recognizes the value of their integrity and makes retaliation unlawful.

In this case, our client did exactly what the law expects of public servants: they identified conduct they reasonably believed was improper, reported it through appropriate channels, and continued doing their job with professionalism. When adverse employment actions followed, our firm stepped in to ensure that their rights were protected.

The settlement reflects three important truths:

  1. Whistleblowers Deserve Protection — Not Punishment

Retaliation undermines public trust, damages workplace culture, and destroys the willingness of good people to come forward. Strong outcomes like this reinforce the message that retaliation carries consequences.

  1. Confidentiality Does Not Diminish the Significance

Although we cannot disclose details about the specific facts or the parties involved, this result stands as a reminder that employees do not have to face retaliation alone. There are legal tools available — and they work.

  1. Accountability Matters

Public institutions function best when concerns are raised and addressed, not silenced. This settlement underscores the importance of maintaining transparent, safe, and lawful workplaces for employees and the communities they serve.

Our firm is proud to have helped our client secure a resolution that acknowledges the harm they suffered and helps them move forward. And while every case is different, the core principles remain the same:

Tell the truth. Stand up for what’s right. And don’t let fear keep you silent.

If you believe you’ve experienced retaliation after reporting misconduct or safety concerns, we are here to help you understand your rights and options under Kentucky law.
