In male-dominated industries, women often face challenges that go far beyond the demands of the job. One of our clients—a dedicated truck driver here in Louisville—experienced one of those challenges firsthand. When she rejected an unwanted sexual advance from a trainer, she was terminated almost immediately afterward.

She did everything society tells us to do: work hard, show up, and earn respect. Yet when she stood her ground and protected her dignity, the consequence was losing her job.

Coming forward wasn’t easy. It rarely is. Many survivors wait months or even years before speaking up—not because their experiences are any less real, but because the emotional toll, the fear of retaliation, and the risk of not being believed can be overwhelming. Our client carried all of that while raising her young daughter and trying to rebuild her life.

But she chose courage. She chose to assert her rights. And ultimately, she chose justice.

Recently, we reached a resolution in her case that will help soften the financial blow she suffered after her termination and provide stability for her family as she moves forward. While the terms and parties involved must remain confidential, the impact of this outcome is something we can share:

Accountability matters. Retaliation is unlawful. And when someone abuses their power, there is a path forward.

Our client’s strength reminds us why this work matters—not just for one person, but for every worker who deserves a safe, respectful workplace. No one should lose their job because they refuse unwanted advances. No one should be punished for saying “no.”

We are honored to have stood beside her on this journey and proud of the result she achieved. Her story is a testament to resilience, to justice, and to the power of speaking up.

If you or someone you know has experienced discrimination or retaliation in the workplace, know this: You are not alone, and you have rights.
